The Jeweller who’s first an Artist

Robert Young · Sydney · Forty years of making Art.
The Origin
Robert Young didn’t arrive at jewellery through a conventional path. Before the rings, there were four decades of photography, sculpture and video work — bodies, light, the raw material of human experience.
He shot for TIME Magazine Vogue Australia SMH and Qantas to mention a few. He photographed London street life on Wardour Street and Kings Cross in Sydney at its most confrontational. He built sculpture from found objects and made video poems that asked difficult questions. He did all of this with the same intention that now goes into every ring: to make something that tells the truth.
That history lives in every piece. The ‘love’ inscription hand-cut inside each band isn’t decoration — it’s forty years of understanding that meaning belongs on the inside, invisible to the world, known only to the two people who matter.
The Studio
Made in Alexandria. Sent around the world.
The Robert Young Jewellery studio is in Alexandria, Sydney — the same workshop where the Video work is explored, where the Sculpture is conceived, where the space for expression is made.
Every Ring begins with a conversation. Robert wants to know about your life — the important parts, the complicated parts, the love story that brought you here. That conversation becomes the brief. The brief becomes the design. The design becomes a piece of jewellery that belongs specifically to you and nobody else.
The making process combines modern precision with old technique: 3D printed resin models for fit and form, then hand tools at the bench for finishing. The love inscription is cut last, by hand, with a jeweller’s saw so fine it takes years to master. Each cut is different because each love is different.
The Philosophy
Love lives on the inside.
Most jewellery announces itself. Robert Young jewellery keeps its secrets.
The ‘love’ that appears in nearly every piece is positioned and read inside the band — private, intimate, invisible in daily life. It’s there when you put it on and take it off. It’s there when it matters. This idea — that what counts most is what you carry quietly — runs through everything Robert makes.
It came from a life of watching how people actually hold the things they love. Not with display. With weight.
